Lots of Snowbirds at my 50th!

Having recently attended the big “50” Class reunion, it was fascinating to learn of how many of my former classmates either have become “snowbirds” or have moved to southern locations, especially Florida.   I can understand a desire to move to a warmer climate for some.  I personally am still quite attached to the four seasons of Northeast Pennsylvania.  Right now, I am looking forward to fall, the foliage, crisp air, pumpkins and mums.

But for those of you that are still thinking of the warmer climates, I know of many publications listing the best places to retire with criteria that focus on various lifestyles, or cost of living or taxes- sales, income and property.

Taxes can have a big impact on retirement budgets.  A few US states have little or no income tax.  Most states do not tax Social Security income.  And sales tax is another important consideration.  There are two sites that offer excellent tools for evaluation tax implications:  Kiplinger offers a state-by-state guide at www.bit.ly/TaxesRetirement.   And SmartAsset provides individual state summaries at smartasset.com/retirement/retirement-taxes.

If you think you want to make a move south, a big first step is to determine the value of the home.  I can provide you with a current Market Evaluation of your current home, at no cost.  That could help set the stage for a transition.  Call or text me at 570-234-5202 for a free copy of “Moving On” A guide to housing related resources tailored to Seniors and their families.
